OGS Webinar: Using AncestryDNA with your Family History

On the first Thursday of every month, the Ontario Genealogical Society hosts an education webinar. This month, Lesley Anderson will be presenting a webinar entitled ‘Using AncestryDNA with your Family History’. The presentation will begin at 7pm EST on May 3 and registration is required.
Lesley says: “Do you want to know about your personal story? Where your deep roots came from? Perhaps you are just curious to know what the results might be? Whatever your starting point AncestryDNA will reveal more of your own story and it’s amazingly helpful to genealogy research.

Ontario Genealogical Society / NextGen Support Partnership

The NextGen Genealogy Network (NGGN) and the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS) are pleased to announce a new partnership. OGS is providing NGGN with financial support, together with promotional support in the OGS weekly online newsletter, eWeekly, together with an information page on the OGS website.
NGGN, a United States based 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization was founded in 2013 to create a community for young genealogists. Building connections and fostering engagement among young genealogists eighteen to fifty, NGGN strives to build connections between generations, and welcomes the friendship, mentorship, and support of our fellow genealogists of all ages.
OGS, an Ontario registered non-profit corporation and a registered Canadian charity. Is Canada’s largest member supported genealogical organization. Founded in 1961, OGS is dedicated to cooperating with, offering support to and sharing experience and technical support to other genealogical organizations.
Eric Wells, NextGen Educational Coordinator, commented that NextGen welcomes the friendship and support offered by OGS and looks forward to the possibilities of future collaboration with OGS to support and assist NextGen members.

NGGN welcomes Secretary

The NextGen Genealogy Network welcomes Jari C. Honora as our new Secretary.
Jari C. Honora
Honora replaces Beth Garison Wylie, who served as NextGen Secretary from 2016 -2018. Jari has an extensive background in education and is currently a middle school teacher. An avid genealogist, he has been researching his family history for 14 years, and has been doing genealogy professionally for the past 5 years. He has strong Creole roots on his maternal side and contributes regularly to the CreoleGen blog.
In addition to giving presentations at societies in the U.S. and Canada, Jari has also done work for Finding your Roots (PBS), the Georgetown Slavery Project, and We’ll Meet Again (PBS).
