Ontario Genealogical Society Conference 2018

 

In 2 weeks, the Ontario Genealogical Society 2018 Conference will be kicking off in Guelph, Ontario and NextGen will be there!

The conference runs from June 1st-3rd and is being held at the University of Guelph.  It is going to be a fun and informative 3 days filled with many speakers, vendors and events.

Workshops

Friday is dedicated to workshops -there are 12 different workshops to choose from (6 in the morning, 6 in the afternoon).  These workshops cover a number of different topics including “Preparing your Family Tree for Professional Printing” and “DNA and the Global Family Tree”.   Details on all the workshops can be found HERE.

Lectures

Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, there are 35 lectures being presented.  Saturday is split into 3 sessions and Sunday will have 4 sessions.  The presentations range in topic from “The Emigration/Immigration Experience: London, England to Upper Canada via New York and the Erie Canal” to “A Soldier’s Camera: Candid Glimpses of the First World War”.    NextGen’s very own Melanie McComb (Social Media Coordinator) will also be there presenting 2 lectures!

Marketplace

Amongst the variety of vendors, NextGen will also have a booth at the marketplace.  We will have plenty of swag to give away and we can’t wait to meet you all!  So please don’t be shy, come find us and say hi!

Also there will be Fast Track speakers in the marketplace – 30 minute presentations taking place in a small seated area.

Conference  events

There are several conference events happening on Friday and Saturday.  If this is your first time at the OGS Conference, don’t miss out on the First-Timers Gathering being held from 4.30-5.30pm on Friday.  There is a Welcome and Networking Reception from 9-10pm Friday – this will be a great way to connect with your fellow genealogists.

Saturday’s conference events will focus on Special Interest Groups, including Irish, Scottish and British Home Child meeting.

Don’t miss out on this great event!  Although online registration is now closed, you can still register onsite May 31st-June 3rd at the front entrance of Rozanski Hall.
